EARLY LIFE

June 1st 1979, Notch was born in Stockholm Sweden into an unstable family, they often had trouble finding a bite to eat and lived in poverty.

Despite Notches upbringing he had an early fascination with video games and computers nurtured by his father, letting him use the family's Commodore 128, a primitive 80s home computing device . It wasn't long unitl he would end up developing his first game using the family commodore by the age of 8, a text based adventure game without a known name this game would start him off on a lifelong pursuit of video game development this meant that he often neglected school focusing most of his freetime on coding  and developing video games. At school notch was quiet and kept to himself most of the time being called a loaner and only having around 1 friend despite this, he was mostly well liked by his peers. Not many people believed in notch with His teachers advising him to study graphic design instead of game development, telling him that a future in game development just wasn't going to happen. This wouldn't discourage the boy, rather encouraging him to drop out of highschool to Pursue his passion of game development. He would spend almost all his time making small game titles for video game competitions and little side projects he would create for himself Although finding almost no sucess, He never gave up and continued to pursue his dream of becoming a game developer. So far Notch is nothing, not having any success despite his many hard works, but this was about to change…

MINECRAFT

It wasn't until 2009 until inspiration finally struck Notch with a game he would develop first called “cave game”  a sandbox type game with very simple graphics and only a few blocks with similar concepts to a game he liked called Infiniminer, this project would eventually mold into minecraft, one of Notch’s most ambitious projects yet with notch getting it out to the pubic may 16 2009 after a very short development cycle of just 2 months. The game quickly grew a fanbase despite it being a very simple game with only a few blocks, no tools, no health and real objective. Over the next few months notch would add more and more features to the game with minecraft eventually becoming a big name in the gaming community. This would end up becoming a full time project for notch, with him turning down job offers from gaming companies like valve to continue working on minecraft. This wasnt the end of minecraft's growth with the game hitting 1 million registered accounts by early 2011. He would even end up marrying a fellow coder Elona Zetterstrand, the sister of Christoph Zetterstrnd the main designer of minecraft's paintings They would soon divorce later in 2012 after having a daughter together besides this drama things were still going good for notch as  a thriving community of youtubers, builders and casual players would soon build around the game as notch would continue to add more features and updates. After minecraft hit 4 million copies, the first minecon was held later that year to celebrate minecrafts 1.0 release bringing the game out of beta. This would skyrocket minecrafts sales to 9 million copies by 2012 and 33 million just a year later. Notch has just become one of the most successful game developers in history giving himself over a hundred million dollars of minecrafts profits in 2013. By this point he was considered a legend by the minecraft community and would release the popular minecraft map “the temple of notch”.

0x10c

Constant media supervision and community pressure would eventually wear out Notch who would soon grow bored of minecraft, many people in the community were mad at him for things he wasn't even doing and the constant backlash and hate would eventually lead him to  transfer creative control of minecraft over to Jens Bergenstenas who would come to be known as Jeb.  With all his new found free time, he began to work on a new game which he called 0x10c, 0x10c being a hexadecimal number. This new game would be a Sci Fi space based explorer game set in the year 281,474,976,712,644 AD after a DCPU-16 endian node bug would cause the player  to be put asleep for billions of years longer than they should have. Notch said this game would include features like a procedurally generated infinite universe with galaxies, planets and other abandoned ships as well as mining, trading, and multiplayer space battles. Notch would even say that the game would even include its own computer interface with its own programming language where players would have to code software to manage power systems and perform other tasks.

Hype quickly grew for this game because of notches many recent successes with minecraft as many people thought that this game would be the next big hit for mojang. Even with all the hype and speculation, the development of 0x10c would quickly slow down as notch would receive continuous pressure from his fanbase as well as facing many metal and creative roadblocks.

Notch would eventually put the game on hold indefinitely saying that it could possibly be developed in the future. Many were let down and even angry by this decision but notch thought that it was for the better of himself and the company, this would cause notch to receive even more hate and backlash from the community.

AFTER MOJANG

This recent failure along with Notch growing tired of the constant media attention and the public pressure of developing the largest game of earth, Notch grew tired of minecraft and was ready to move on tweeting “Anyone want to buy my share of mojang so I can move on with my life? Getting hate for doing the right thing is not my gig” Although this being a joke, it attracted the attention of many big game companies like microsoft and activision blizzard who immediately gave Notch offers. Despite Mojang bringing in $330 million dollars in 2013, Notch decided to sell off his 71% share of the company to Microsoft for 2.5 billion dollars after taxes and fees, this offer would make Notch a Billionaire, with him leaving Mojang later that year in november 2014.

This decision was the end of an era for Notch with all his life goals being fulfilled, wealth, fame, and an unforgettable legacy.

This would eventually leave him jobless with 2 and a half billion dollars to spend, he would not hold back buying things like a 23,000 square foot 8 bedroom $70 million dollar mansion in Beverly Hills setting an LA spending record. He would spend millions of dollars a week living life to the extreme partying with celebrities and some of the richest people on earth. He intended on continuing game development even spending 60 million dollars trying to start a new game studio. Sadly these efforts would be hopeless.

Despite all his wealth, he would soon grow miserable with his life and fall into a deep depression shown by declining relationships with other creators and reportedly having many social and emotional issues as even with all his life goals accomplished, he would still sit in his $70 million dollar mansion lonely with tweets about how meaningless life is and how hard it was to be a billionaire. His former co-workers started to hate him as he tweeted “when we sold the company the biggest effort went into making sure the employees got taken care of, and they all hate me now.”

Notch would calm down and develop a few small indie games as he would get less media attention. Until 2017 when he would get media backlash because of some “racist” and “Transphobic” remarks he would make on twitter. Despite the backlash he would begin to heat things up and make even more controversial statements. This attracted the attention of Microsoft making the decision to remove all references to notch from minecraft, effectively removing Notches legacy from the game in 2017 because of said controversial remarks as well as the fact that microsoft has owned minecraft longer than notch ever has.

It is no doubt that notch has revolutionized the gaming industry and will live on as a legend in all our hearts

[He's not dead moron]

Oh yeah,

So where is he now?

Notch has since calmed down with the controversial remarks and recently hinted at making more big games but is still dormant as of now. He is still active on twitter and I will link it in the description below. Notch is only 44 years old so who knows what he’ll cook up next!
