Over Minecraft’s existence, there have been many updates where Mojang (the studio that created Minecraft) added new features to the game like new mobs, blocks, and structures. Even to this day, the Minecraft community looks forward to the next big Minecraft update usually every 6 months to a year, but today we’re going to look much further than 6 months or even a year, we are going to look at Minecraft’s future over the next 10 years and beyond.
I will be splitting the predictions I make into three categories, gameplay (what new biomes blocks and mobs will be in the game), Community (how will Minecraft look on YouTube? What will the community be like?), and finally, Business (will Minecraft still be around and who will own it?)
Quick disclaimer:
I cannot predict the future and I know that some of the points I will make in this video are going to be a little outlandish and may not come true I would love to look back at this video in 10 years and see what I got correct because I can already see the comments being spammed with statements like “you can't predict the future” and a bunch of Other people's opinions on what Minecraft in 10 years will actually look like.
Without further ado, let's get into it!
First, we're going to start out with the basics, new blocks: At least within the next couple updates, there will be added functionality to blocks like the fletching table, a block added to minecraft update 1.14 (the village and pillage update) as well as colored wood, considering that Mojang has hinted at adding colored wood many times in the past although mojang has said that it would be too complicated to add colored wood, because they would also need to add colored trapdoors, signs, stairs and a different variant of every wood block in the game- but considering that vast amount of new resources at the hand of Mojang, I do think that we will get more varieties of colored wood especially since we already have been getting different types of trees and wood in the last couple updates like bamboo wood, cherry wood and mangrove wood Its very likely that we will be getting a higher variety of woods in the future like ebony wood, a material from very dark tree being found in jungles which produces a very hard wood with the player being able to make stronger wooden armor or tools out of it.
We will also probably see some new biomes in the next coming updates like an improved birch forest as Mojang has previously hinted at improving the birch forest in many recent updates as well as badlands and savanna biomes as many recent biome votes have had these biomes as an option even with Mojang saying that they even had plans to update these biomes in the future which would also mean Mojang adding many new mobs like many African and aquatic animals such as elephants, giraffes, and hyenas as well as many bugs and aquatic life like fireflies, whales and new varieties of fish. The addition of these mobs would be cool but the likelihood of this actually happening can be very low as Mojang has previously vetoed the addition of mobs like sharks in the past as they don't seem to like adding endangered animals into the game for some reason. Mojang has previously stated that they don't like adding hostile mobs that exist in real life or endangered animals because apparently, they think that kids playing Minecraft will think that sharks or lions or whatever they add are evil and proceed to hijack the nearest boat, drive it to central Africa, and proceed to drive all the native wildlife to extinction because they saw it in a block game. Although what I just said being an exaggeration, there have been many cases where peoples pet parrots have died in real life because kids were feeding them chocolate chip cookies which led Mojang to remove a feature in Minecraft where feeding a parrot a cookie would make it befriend you, instead they made feeding parrots cookies in Minecraft kill the thing- which has probably dissapainted a lot of young players.
Even then, what's wrong with having mobs like sharks in the game?? There have been many theories but no one really knows for sure.
Anyways…
Mojang is also likely to add some subvariants of biomes like the plains- a biome that has been basically the same for over the last decade and the snowy biome- again a biome that has stayed the same for many years, I think that these biomes are very likely to be updated, although you can't do much with the plains biome considering that it literally has the word “plain” in it.
Mojang is also likely to add other creatures to the game like a wider variety of birds considering that the only birds in the game thus far have just been the phantom and the parrot which the phantom isn't really a bird- I think Minecraft would really benefit from the addition birds like robins or hawks or crows which drop different varieties of feathers that could be used to add different effects to arrows or maybe even a feature where you can write in books using feathers or even use feathers to dye objects different colors. Birds could also be trained to do various activities for the player like hawks being able to protect the player from hostile mobs or hunt certain mobs on command. Or even some kinds of birds being able to carry messages or items for the player Along with this, I think that Mojang is also going to add more small creatures like different kinds of insects or bugs, mojang has even tried to do this in the past with the canceled addition of fireflies- smaller bugs could also be eaten by the player because we all know that companies like Microsoft are owned by people that would love for you to eat bugs. Different kinds of reptiles like land turtles lizards or snakes would also be a great addition to the game to add more life to certain biomes and the world as a whole. I know that Mojang might play the card that people will think that snakes are evil and try and kill them in real life because of a silly little block game but why not just add harmless versions of snakes like the garter snake which doesn't bite humans? Snake fangs or collectible venom could be used to create or enhance a new kind of sword made out of snake fangs that poisons the enemy when you attack. Also, using things like earthworms in a garden could be used to make plants grow faster or drop more loot as the addition of worms to gardens in real life can make a garden healthy, I'm just throwing out ideas, but these are all things that you will probably see in the next 10 years
Another thing that I could see coming in the next 10 years is different breeds of dogs with different abilities and nerfs like some breeds being able to do much more damage when attacking but having much less heath, or some breeds being faster than others or being able to jump much higher than others. Even without the special abilities, different biome-dependent skins or wolf breeds in Minecraft would be a great addition. I see this as very likey because Mojang has added different types of cats and horses in the past and this change wouldn't juridically change gameplay like other features as well as serve as another task for players to do with their being an achievement for taming every breed of dog in Minecraft.
Now let's move on to any new structures or dimensions that will be added to Minecraft like the skulk dimension that has been hinted upon by Mojang many times, mainly because of many things like this giant portal found in the middle of an ancient city biome as well as the fact that its been over 10 years since Mojang has added a new dimension to Minecraft and we are long overdue for another one- the addition of a new dimension would also mean that a bunch of new blocks mobs and structures will be added to Minecraft- some of them so outlandish that I couldn't even begin to predict them. On the ectopic of structures, we will probably get a bunch of new structures in the next couple of updates like the trial chambers being announced for the next major update for Minecraft. We will also get updates to many already existing structures like jungle temples which have been around for many years and have remained pretty bland with most players and including me skipping them entirely because it's just not worth it. We are also probably going to see updates to other structures like dungeons and nether fortresses, some of the oldest structures in the game with dungeons probably being completely reworked and nether fortresses being improved in some way with new rooms and challenges being added. We’re also definitely going to be seeing some changes to other structures like desert wells which, at the moment are completely useless as well as igloos which are kinda of cool but could use some work. Minecraft has definitely needed a structure update for quite some time and it is almost certain that we will get one, maybe in the next update or two.
Now let's move on to some basic mechanics and features that are going to be changed in the next 10 years like an improved PVP system, as Jeb (one of the lead developers of Minecraft) has been working on an improved combat system for many years at this point with many iterations of the refined combat system being released for both versions of Minecraft including a complete revamp on tool cooldown, shields and explosion damage as well as a lot of other necessary changes to the game. I also think that Minecraft height limit will be expanded with higher mountains, deeper oceans, and much more because of general computing power going up which has been a key limiter of Minecraft height limit over the years. Im a little unsure about this one, because after a certain point, the height would just get a little ridiculous- who needs a base at y level 3000? {I D-}.
Another thing that will change is the height limit of other dimensions like the nether or the end will be changed in the next coming years as they have stayed the same at 256 blocks for many years even after the cave update where Mojang changed the overworld limit to 320 blocks plus 60 blocks under the world going into the negatives, the nether and end’s height limit will likely be matched.
We may also see our crafting system being reworked in the coming years as many people have pointed out how clunky the existing crafting system can be at times.
This also may not happen because it would be very controversial because most older players of the game have likely already gotten very used to the existing system and would not like it to be changed.
Another cool thing we may see in the next 10 years is the addition of seasons to Minecraft. The reason that this may be added is that Mojang does say that they won't add natural disasters or any random events that could tamper with players' builds because of the nature of Minecraft.
Even then, I'm sure there is a way that seasons or natural disasters could be added without interfering with too much of the game with natural events being able to be turned on or off depending on what the player wants. Seasons could be a great addition to Minecraft and add a variety to players' builds of just the survival experience, it would also make some bland biomes I mentioned earlier more interesting and force the player to go exploring more.
And also the speed of minecarts will finally be increased. I PROMISE.
Now, my final point, will Minecraft's graphics be any better?
We all know that technology in 10 years will probably be so advanced that its almost unrecognizable- especially with the new addition of AI, so I don't know if Minecraft will significantly change its graphics as many people have grown to love the simple blocky nature of the game. One thing I can say for sure is that there will be no circles in the future, mojang will always strive to keep the original feel of playing Minecraft with the 16-bit blocky aspects of Minecraft still being upheld.
Our next section of this video is about the community of Minecraft, what will the landscape be like on YouTube specifically?
I don't really have much to say about this because the landscape on YouTube is extremely unpredictable with so many new creators popping up left and right, but what I can say is that AI may completely take over YouTube. There will soon be a point where most content being uploaded to YouTube is mostly AI-generated or just copy and paste content with most creators running out of ideas and just using the same ideas over and over again, this is a huge problem and if YouTube doesn't use some major policy update to fix the rise of AI, YouTube will just be a platform full of bots. Most people shrug it off but I can say that this will happen and will be the biggest change in the history of Minecraft content on YouTube. Im not being dramatic.
Well, anyways, I also think that Minecraft EULA policy will get more and more ridiculous with Mojang recently updating the EULA policy (which is basically the guidelines of the use of Minecraft on YouTube) this policy has gotten more and more restrictive over the last couple years as Minecraft has grown more and more and I believe that we are close to a tipping point where Minecraft will have to take a cut of money from all the Minecraft content on youtube, which is a huge problem and could completely kill off all Minecraft content on youtube.
I also believe that there will be a change with the chat system in Minecraft will get a lot more restrictive mainly because of the recent changes where you can now get permanently banned from Minecraft for saying things in your own private world that Mojang and Microsoft doesn't like or agree with. Minecraft is becoming more and more corporate and more restrictive to its players which will hurt Minecraft as a game and create an unstable environment for many of its players.
In conclusion, I have absolutely no idea what the community will be like and I can't make any predictions on whether even YouTube or Minecraft will be around by the time I'm predicting in 2034. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Now lets move to our final topic of this video, the business aspects of Minecraft, mainly, will Minecraft still be popular and what will Mojang be?
One thing that I can definitely say for sure is that Minecraft will still be around- it is the biggest game ever made with over 300 million copies of game being sold and it is definitely here to stay unless mojang comes out with some big change that completely kills the game. What I can't say for sure is that Minecraft will still remain the big thing, especially considering that it has kinda died down since its last peak in 2020 after it was “dead” for many years since around 2013- 2016, mainly because of _. I do think that Minecraft will receive one more spike in popularity in the next couple of years but I will admit, it is pretty quiet right now. But there will most likley be another revival of Minecraft when everyone gets sick of GTA 6… if.
Another important thing that might happen to Minecraft is that Minecraft may stop updating which will definitely kill the game.
I think this because you can't just update a game forever, even today I'm finding that Minecraft is often overcomplicated and messy making it hard to enjoy at times.
I don't know if there's a viable solution to this coming issue on the game but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Mojang decides to do with the game
In conclusion, Minecraft is probably either going to look exactly the same or very different in the coming years and it's going to be interesting to see what Mojang decides to do with Minecraft. I hope you enjoyed this video, please give me feedback in the comments, I'm always looking to improve my videos. BYE
