Over Minecraft’s existence, Minecraft has had many updates where Mojang (the studio that created Minecraft) added new features to the game like new blocks, mobs, and even biomes, but sometimes, features in these updates often get scratched, cut out, and or just changed and today we're going to explore the top 10 coolest things that mojang almost added to Minecraft starting out with the feature of seasons, an update that was first planned upon by notch (the creator of Minecraft) back in 2010, on a list of features that notch was planning to add to the game. This feature would’ve been really cool with players' Minecraft worlds being covered in snow some parts of the year, and completely dry or blooming with life when other parts of the Minecraft year came around with different types of colored leaves, new season-dependent mobs, and even new clothing items for the player to wear during the colder months like warm boots or mittens or even lighter clothing items to be worn during the summer months. I think that it’s safe to say that this would’ve been a great feature to add to Minecraft, bring more life to the game, and just improve it overall, but sadly- notch would eventually say that he scrapped the idea of seasons because of some technical difficulties, and his overall disinterest with the feature, but who knows, Mojang may have some plans to add this feature in a later update as it is still a very good idea.

This brings us over to our next unadded feature, the giant, a mob added in along with update 0.30_3, the giant was basically just a bigger version of the zombie with more heath or a high attack damage. The thing with this feature is that if you spawn in a giant today using this command, you will get a giant but it doesn't move or attack you, just standing there doing nothing, notch was also planning to add bigger versions of other mobs like slimes or magma cubes to the game as a small boss for the player to beat. As you probably know by now, this feature would eventually be scrapped for an unknown reason, but my best guess is that a naturally spawning giant would just look kinda goofy in a regular Minecraft world with its feet probably clipping through blocks or just hovering over blocks at times. It would also be pretty weird to come back to your Minecraft base and find a random giant standing in the middle of it. I mean, he could've made this work… but I doubt we’ll see a feature like this anytime soon.

Another small little Minecraft feature that Notch was planning for quite some time was “land claim flags” small flags that you could make to mark down territory in your world, with mobs not being able to spawn in the claimed land. At the time, notch had a clear intention to add this as this was on his Minecraft to-do list for many months until eventually getting canceled for some reason, maybe a technical difficulty, maybe because the feature just doesn't have too much logic to it or because it was a little overpowered because a player with enough resources could just claim hundreds of blocks of land and basically play on peaceful mode- or maybe even take advantage of it by placing a flag on the surface of a chunk and just go mining in the lower levels of the chunk- but no one really knows why this feature never ended up getting added, but our next Minecraft feature was actually added to Minecraft and stayed in the game for quite some time, to be honest, I honestly debited on putting this feature in the video, but, here we are. The next canceled feature of Minecraft is gears- an early version of Redstone that would be placed on walls that notch was testing out, this addition to Minecraft would only be seen in a few updates with it gaining little functionality besides just spinning, Notch would eventually change the feature of gears to “Redstone” which I honestly think was a good decision as gears would be pretty limiting, rather than redstone which has so many implications across so many different areas of Minecraft, so in the grand scheme of things.. I'm sure nobody really cares.

By this point, I'm sure everyone knows that there 5 game modes to Minecraft, hardcore, adventure, spectator, survival mode, and creative mode, but maybe in another universe there would've been 6 game modes because Notch had the intention to add another game mode called “dungeon mode”- I couldn't really find that much information on what exactly dungeon mode would be like, Notch has said that it would be like adventure mode in some sort of way, but I would like to imagine it as more of just minecraft dungeons. That's probably where Minecraft got the inspiration for Minecraft dungeons anyway.  It would be interesting to see what this gamemode would been, considering how long this was on notches to-do list which means that Notch was probably working on it for quite some time,

You know how blocks like sand, and gravel fall when you place them over air? Well, notch originally intended for all blocks except obsidian to act this way with all caves being held up somehow and obsidian being placed at the bottom of the world instead of bedrock so that you know... The entire world doesn't fall. This feature is an interesting concept because it would have some upsides and some downsides as most ridiculous builds like sky islands wouldn't be possible if this were implemented as well as bridging in any form, sky block challenges, and just most of the often whacky generation of Minecraft which honestly would suck because I love being able to bridge this fast (at least on bedrock edition) but this feature would also have some positive implications because it would just make Minecraft more realistic and add a challenge for players to overcome when building structures… but… I think the negative aspects of this feature would outweigh the positives as limitations like this would just limit player's creativity and ability to express themselves… which is a big part of Minecraft which is probably why Notch decided to stop working on this concept and just kept sand, gravel the only falling blocks. Which, in retrospect, was probably a good decision

Let's just move on…

I think that most people will agree that Minecraft has needed more real bosses for quite some time as the last decently powerful boss we’ve gotten has been the warden… which honestly isn't that hard to kill, and doesn't even drop anything! A new boss in Minecraft would be a great addition which was expressed by Notch with him tweeting in early 2010-2011 about adding dragons to the game, you could just say that by dragons he meant the ender dragon which would be added just a few months after these tweets but notch did express some intention to keep adding dragons, even after the ender dragon in which he would talk about an overworld “red dragon” which would be found in some biomes and could either be a challenge or a friend to the player with it dropping some sort of loot or the player maybe even being able to ride the dragon. This feature would've been really cool if Notch didn't leave Microsoft before actually being able to implement the dragon a couple years later, but who knows- Mojang might have plans of adding more dragons in the future, I'm sure the Minecraft community would love it.

Now let's move on to possibly the most useful and game-changing feature on this list- wind, specifically, blocks being able to be moved by wind or just more physics surrounding blocks as even to this day. Movement in Minecraft is kinda bland as there's no way to make flying objects or boats without a bunch of complicated redstone or just using the built-in boat item and adding more physics features to Minecraft would just be a great addition overall as Notch was experimenting a lot with this feature back in the day because of how interesting, useful and game-changing it would've been with this feature fostering much more creativity within th Minecraft community and just adding more things to do in Minecraft… but.. eventually… This idea was shelved by notch, mainly because it just didn't seem that “Minecraft” as this would allow players to make planes, rockets, and bigger boats which just doesn't fit much with the 16-bit blocky nature of the game. Another reason that this idea was shelved was that it would just simply be hard to implement- which is becoming kinda a trend to this list. But seriously… animating the movement of every single block in the game as well as completely redesigning the physics engine to allow for this feature to exist would just be a ridiculous task considering how small Mojang was at the time, but this feature or a feature like this could possibly be in development right now considering how much mojang has grown since those times and how much more resources mojang has at their disposal.

Here's a cool one! different variants of mobs like creepers in Minecraft, like fire creepers, ice creepers, and shadow creepers as Notch has mentioned many times on forums, about adding different variations of creepers or zombies or even skeletons to the game- that have different abilities- like a fire creeper spreading fire around the area as soon as it blew up or even shadow creepers that are a lot better at sneaking up behind you… actually, I don't think that would be a good idea- just have the fire creeper, that's cool! This feature was considered by notch, many times- but sadly, didn't make it into the game in any way shape, or form- AGAIN, probably because it would've been very very hard to implement at the time which is the reason that our next feature, that possibly would've been the most game-changing feature of all time is at the very end of this list- the feature or dimension I am talking about is the sky dimension or, the ather which was announced in 2011 when notch would tweet an image of a sort of new type of Minecraft landscape that he was working on for the beta 1.8 version of Minecraft or just the adventure update- he described it as sort of a dream dimension, like heaven, a sort of opposite nether that the player could access while asleep with many new potential mobs, blocks and resourced and even tools to be added with it possibly drastically changing the gameplay and progression of Minecraft. But sadly, this Minecraft dimension would never end up being added as Jeb (one of the lead developers of Minecraft, would later state that they had to stop working on it because of some technical issues with the lighting engine in Minecraft that the studio couldn't figure out how to fix. Despite this, the feature wasn't fully canceled (in a way) as Mojang eventually decided to rebrand this as the end dimension later in 2011 which has a striking similarity to the original concepts announced prior to the official release of Minecraft as well as the original idea of the sky dimension being made into a mod called the ather, one of the most popular Minecraft mods of all time with some of the developers of said mod even working on Minecraft to this day.

Well, that concludes my putrid list of Mojang’s 10 best cancelled Minecraft features, if you enjoyed my putrid list- comment “PUTRID LIST?! enjoyed.”

I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I would appreciate some feedback in the comment section below as I'm always trying to improve my videos.
